Looking for a meaningful and affordable family outing this March?
The Catawba Nation Powwow returns to Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill March 13–15, offering families from both the Charlotte and Rock Hill areas an opportunity to experience living Native culture firsthand.

What to Expect

Throughout the weekend, families can enjoy:

  • Traditional dancing
  • Powerful drum groups

One of the most powerful moments of the weekend is Grand Entry, when dancers, veterans, and drum groups enter the arena together in a vibrant and respectful opening ceremony.

The powwow is welcoming to first-time visitors and offers a unique opportunity for children to see culture, history, and tradition come to life in an engaging way. Families are encouraged to observe respectfully, explore the vendor booths, and enjoy the music and movement throughout the arena.

What Families Should Know Before You Go

  • Arrive early for Grand Entry to experience the full opening ceremony. Doors open two hours before each Grand Entry.
  • Stand during Grand Entry and honor songs as a sign of respect.
  • Photography is typically welcome, but always follow announcements and guidance from the emcee.
  • Bring cash for vendors and food purchases.

• Stay for multiple dance categories — children especially enjoy the Tiny Tot and Youth competitions.

Whether it’s your first powwow or part of a family tradition, this weekend celebration offers a powerful way to learn, connect, and experience culture together. So, bring your curiosity, and your family. The Catawba Nation Powwow is a place where children can see history come alive, traditions are shared with pride, and where communities gather in unity.
